Täbriz: Many claim that Täbriz is the oldest of all carpet centres of the world. After devastating natural disasters and control by different great powers the Persians had the town left only 1928. Täbriz, the capital of the province Azerbaijan in Nordwestpersien, forms the market centre for carpets since the second half the 19th century.
Carpets are produced in all sorts of qualities up to the finest knotting here. The quality of these carpets is honoured with a base (chain) of the finest cotton, expensive cork wool and sometimes also of most valuable silk mostly. The filled sample of thick floral motives, great pallets, vases or live hunting scenes, is typical of the Täbriz. These carpet of ferruginous and pastels often are tone masters. There are however many unique designs which are designed by outstanding Persian artists.
The knot number per sqm plays a large role in Täbriz, the fineness by far, however, is not everything. Two Täbriz carpets can be very different in the value at the same fineness. The colour position and examination then play the most important role in the value finding. The dealers and knotting in Iran also know that beauty always stands about fineness. A Täbriz carpet which is or farb and musterlich were succeeded very much harmonious obtains considerably higher prices and is also stabler in value.
